Data credits & sources

MOFRD is built on published law. Every statute we show is traceable to the government body that published it or to an openly licensed dataset. This page names all of them.

Open US Law — used under CC BY 4.0

Portions of MOFRD’s statutory corpus (144,065 sections) are derived from Open US Law by Vaquill (vaquill.ai), used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence. The material has been reformatted, indexed, and in places restructured for presentation within MOFRD; those changes are MOFRD’s and are not endorsed by Vaquill.

Severity classifications, plain-English summaries, matter organization, deadline calculations, and the linkage between facts and statutes are MOFRD’s own work and are not part of the CC BY material.

Official government sources

The remaining jurisdictions are sourced directly from official government publications, linked below. Statutory text produced by a government body is generally not subject to copyright in the United States, but we link the official publication in every case so you can confirm any provision against the authoritative source — which you should do before relying on it.
