(a) The Department of Justice shall establish a fee of twenty dollars ($20) per request for return of a firearm, ammunition feeding device, or any quantity of ammunition plus a three-dollar ($3) charge for each additional firearm being processed as part of the request to return a firearm, to cover its reasonable costs for processing applications submitted pursuant to this chapter. (b) The fees collected pursuant to subdivision (a) shall be deposited into the Dealers’ Record of Sale Special Account. (c) The department shall annually review and shall adjust the fees specified in subdivision (a), if necessary, to fully fund, but not to exceed the reasonable costs of processing applications submitted pursuant to this section. (d) This section shall become operative on July 1, 2020.
