(a) If the Office of Suicide Prevention is established pursuant to Section 131300, both of the following shall apply: (1) The Office of Suicide Prevention shall consult with the Behavioral Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission to implement suicide prevention efforts consistent with the Suicide Prevention Report “Striving for Zero,” as described pursuant to Provision 1 of Item 4560-001-3085 of Section 2.00 of the Budget Act of 2020. (2) This section does not authorize the Office of Suicide Prevention to perform any of the duties required by the commission under Part 3.7 (commencing with Section 5845) of Division 5 of, or administer a program funded by Part 4.5 (commencing with Section 5890) of Division 5 of, the Welfare and Institutions Code. (b) This section shall become operative on January 1, 2025, if amendments to the Mental Health Services Act are approved by the voters at the March 5, 2024, statewide primary election.
