(a) If the governing board of a school district requires the completion of community service hours as a requirement for graduation from high school, the school district may provide a pupil with credit towards the community service hours required for graduation commensurate with the hours required for completion of a course in community emergency response training. (b) Subdivision (a) does not exempt the governing board of a school district from complying with the requirements of subdivision (b) of Section 51225.3.
