(a) The department shall pay only those assistance claims for federal or state reimbursement under this division that are filed with the department within 18 months after the end of the calendar quarter in which the costs are paid. (b) Any claim that is filed after the time specified in subdivision (a) may be paid only if an exception under federal law applies to that claim. (c) The department may change the 18-month time limit specified in subdivision (a), as deemed necessary by the department to comply with federal changes that affect time limits.
