(a) Except as provided in Section 18930, the State Fire Marshal, in consultation with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, shall prepare and adopt regulations establishing minimum standards for the prevention of fire and for the protection of life and property against fire in any building or structure used or intended for use as a community correctional reentry facility, as defined in Section 6258 of the Penal Code. The State Fire Marshal shall adopt and submit building standards for approval pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 4 (commencing with Section 18935) of Part 2.5 of Division 13 for the purposes described in this section. (b) The regulations and building standards developed pursuant to subdivision (a) shall also address buildings and structures that provide residential housing for parolees under contract with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
