The legislative body of a local agency may furnish police officers and deputy sheriffs assigned to helicopter duty with the following safety equipment: (a) Fireproof coveralls or other suitable fireproof uniforms, fireproof underwear, and fireproof stockings. (b) Flight boots. (c) Suitable plastic aviation-type safety helmet. Such equipment shall remain the property of the local agency and shall be returned upon request of the local agency.
